Quote a Quote!

A teacher left me a message last week asking if I could make our writing exercises match the curriculum being taught. The answer is, "Yes I can!" However, I'd rather do that on a one to one basis. If you're a teacher and you need something specific, please let me know. I'll respond to you by email.

Honestly, like I've said before, I believe the foundation for good writing comes from the freedom to fool around with language and words. That happens when we just play! So, let's have some more fun!

Let's start are own quote anthology!

Here's how:

Share your favorite quote. (It doesn't need to be exact.)

or

Write your own quote for us to remember!
I'll go first. My favorte quote is: Life isn't measured by the number of breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away.

The best advice is...Don't give it!

My most creative ideas happen when my dogs are by my side.

(I think this one is original...the other one MIGHT be too...)

Oh, Lord, keep your arm around my shoulders and your hand over my mouth!

Mark Twain: outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside a dog, it's too dark to read.

Shut up and deal.

I can already tell...THESE ARE GOING TO BE GOOD!!!!!!

I need to go find some James Thurber quotes. He was such a dog lover!

From Oscar Wilde:

A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.

A poet can survive everything but a misprint!

An excellent man; he has no enemies; and none of his friends like him

Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go

Dylan Thomas

"Do not go gentle into this good night."

In my mind I see the quote as...Do not go QUIETLY into this good night.

Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footsteps on the moon. Anon

I often add quotes to my photos, four to six times each week on The Road to Here, and I'm wondering if I'm over immersed. Other than the originals of course, I have seen every quote above, in fact a couple of the Oscar Wilde ones I read two nights ago.

This is my favorite quote:

It's the simple things in life that makes life extraordinary.

It's better late than later.

Here is one of my very own.

"Wait quietly in the shadows
to become a friend to someone."

Jan Mader said...

I love them all. And Squirrel Queen, I don't think we can ever get enough quotes. Everytime I hear one again, it makes me think of something else or is relevant to something new in my life. Please share more!

Tweedles -- that's me said...

1."Don't bite the hand that feeds you."
(i do not know who wrote it)

This next one has special meaning to me
(again i do not know who wrote it)
2. "Reach for the stars"

You can fool some of the people all the time, and all the people some of the time, but you can't fool mom!
I don't know who's quote that is, but Captain Penny (showed cartoons of old)of a Cleveland OH station years ago used to say it at the end of his show. So, we knew mom had eyes in the back of her head, haha.

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it you will land among the stars. Les Brown

I like to use photos with quotes to see my quote for today go to The Road to Here

My mother has been known to say:

"My train of thought has many carriages, but not all of them are connected".

My grandmother was the wife of a Cornish fisherman. A lovely lady, but was known for getting things a bit wrong sometimes!

"That poor man, he died of a corona you know!"
and
"I met a lady who was a clarinet today! She told me she could tell me my fortune!"

Bless!!

Hum...some of those I've never heard of. Don't know that I've thought about a quote I considered to be my favorite. The first one Jan quoted is one I've like and used repeatly.

Some quotes annoy me:
The early bird gets the worm. I don't want a worm, I want a steak.

So my quote is, sleep and pick your moments.

The quote that probably many associate with me is
"Don't drink wine before it's time, IT's Time"

Might be able to think of more, but my wine glass is empty, so must run to the kitchen to refill it. lol snicker/hehe

How true Tweedles. There's at least a bit of the past (if not more) that lives in all of us. The last quote you left made me think a lot. That's what quotes do for me!

I JUST FOUND SOME OF JAMES THURBER'S QUOTES!

Dogs are obsessed with being happy.

I myself have known some profoundly thoughtful dogs.

Man is troubled by what might be called the Dog Wis, a strange and involved compulsion to be as happy and carefee as a dog.

Muggs was always sorry, Mother said, when he bit somene, but we could never understand how she figured this out. He didn't act sorry.

The dog has got more fun out of Man than Man has got out of the dog, for the clearly demonstrable reason that Man is the more laughable of the two animals.

The dog has selcom been successful in pulling man up to its level of sagacity, but man has frequently dragged the dog down to his.

Do Thurber's quotes inspire any of your own???

Tweedles -- that's me said...

Yes, Thurbers inspires me.
Are you ready????????

"Bug eyes pugs are better than no eyes at all"
"Every pug has his day"!
"Dogs smile with their tails"

Tweedles -- that's me said...

"The green grass and the happy skies
court the fluttering butterflies". ~Astrid Alauda

Terri said...

"Whatever floats your boat"

My grandmother said it alot..I now find my self saying it.

Tweedles -- that's me said...

"If I had my wish, everyday would be filled with magic bubbles"
"Don't hide from the storms, just hold on tite and be strong"

Tweedles -- that's me said...

Come on lets play more!!!!!!
We can't be done yet!
ok, guess I will have my own show!

How do ya like this one?
"If your imagination is out of focus, life could be kinda dull". by me of course!

"Sometimes its best to just sit alone and think"
yup another one by me.

"Sometimes you should try balancing on a lily pad, before you take a leap" by me- the tweedles

Ok, who's next?
xoxox

An aphorism is just a quote with delusions of grandeur :>)

Jan Mader said...

Words that make you smile are almost as good as a hug!

Tweedles -- that's me said...

"I am awakening to the rhythm that I feel"

(by me Tweedles)

Tweedles -- that's me said...

"A true friend has more colors than a glorious rainbow"
