Let's Pretend!

Since we know that the best writing comes from what's already in our hearts and minds I thought it would be fun to play around with that idea.

When I write books for children I usually write it based on something that has truly happened. I might alter the events, I might embellish the ideas, and I might alter the characters to meet my needs.

My writing always flows. Why? Because the real story is already in my heart. I can write it as is from beginning to end or I can change lots. Why? Because it the story is mine...all mine!

With that in mind, if you were going to write a novel or a story what would your story be about? Perhaps it would be about a memorable holiday. It might be about a relationship. Would your story take place in the setting where you live or a place you have visited?

What kind of story could you easily write?

Of course it would be my experiences and adventures to places that I have been to. I can tell everything that I saw and I felt. Inventing stories is really hard task, you can only write an effective story if you will write what is in your heart.

AL, how do you almost always beat me to the comment? I love how prolific a blogger you are!! I would write about the outdoors, maybe have a story about a young woman who goes hiking alone and gets lost. (I did that once.)

Or I might write a story about family, and have a problem develop between a parent and child and have it work out in the story for the best.

I would write about my cat - in fact I do!

But to write something a bit more substantial than blog posts, I think I would have to dig deep in order to structure the story so that it would be interesting enough for others to read. I can do the anecdotes, just never tried with context and character description - and all the other things you need to write successfully!

HI JAN,
IF I WERE TO WRITE A STORY IT WOULD BE ABOUT THE OCEAN, WITH THE WAVES BREAKING ONTO THE BEACH. THE SOUND OF THE GULLS, AND THE MANY SHELLS EMBEDDED IN THE SAND, THERE WOULD HAVE TO BE MORE, TO MAKE IT INTERESTING.
HAVE A GOOD DAY. RIZZI

I have had a story rumbling around in my brain ever since I started to blog. In fact that is why I started blogging. I wanted a place to tell this story.
It is the story about a neighbor I had while I was growing up. It is a look at the neighborhood through her eyes.

My story would be about something real. It must live in the heart.

Hi Jan,

I was talking with my son today about this and he told me that he would like both of us to write a story about Greek mythological gods versus Star Wars characters.

I've recently started a story, which is partly inspired by the (contentious) relationship between my mother and her identical twin sister. Twins fascinate me because they're mirrors in more than just appearance, but polar opposites in other ways. I want to alternate chapters to give their differing points of view. Knowing twins makes me privy to some of their quirks. Because I always write fantasy, my characters are witches.

I would write a story about a little girl falling into the toilet, with a favorite little dress on.
