It's All About Creative Perception!

We tend to perceive things by one sense and one sense only...at least at first. We stay in that comfortable box I keep talking about.

Think about some things that fit inside the box. We usually perceive a sandwich by how it tastes. We perceive pain by how it feels or yellow by how it looks.

Let's step outside our comfort zone for a few days and get perceptually creative! Chose one of the following things to write about using a different sense than you would usually use.

1. Write about how yellow might smell, taste, or feel.
2. Write about how pain looks or sounds.
3. Write about how an grapefruit sounds or feels.
4. Write about how a turkey sandwich sounds.
5. Write about how a skunk tastes.

HAVE FUN!

Yellow is a lemon. Silky yet bumpy to the touch, with a sweet/tart smell. The flavor is shocking, but can be mellowed with the addition of sugar.

Pain is loud. It screams in your ears so loud, you can't hear anything else. It starts in the temple area, goes down the jaw line, and into the neck. It does not throb, it is not sharp, it is not dull, it is just plain LOUD. It is called trijeminal neuralga.

Pain is a pointy thing with a metal whirligig on the end of it. It's shiny, sharp, and jagged.

A faint and distant gobble can be heard as you bite into a turkey sandwich. The wheat bread, slathered with mayo and cranberry relish gives a slight crunch as teeth bite into the turkey, only audible to eaters ear.

Pain sounds like glass being smashed on the wall, and it looks and taste like bitter melon. LOL.

Pain feels like you are about to blow up, it sounds as if you are next to a supersonic jet and it makes your ears ring. It smells musty and putrid and it makes you sick to your stomach. Your head feels as if you stuffed cotton into it and you can't even breathe anymore.

Hmm...that didn't exactly only describe how pain looks or sounds, did it?

A skunk, much as the smell, tastes like rotton eggs, garbage, and that horrible taste of burnt rubber.

Sorry, I did two.

A skunk tastes like mud

A grapefruit feels soft, and firm, like when you lean on someones shoulder.

Yellow is the sound of bongo drums, rhythmic, driving, mellow, and it gets in your blood and makes you want to dance on the beach.

Yellow smells like the ocean breeze, bringing the scent of tropical flowers across the waves.

Yellow feels like the long grasses of a meadow in the afternoon, when you take off your shoes and run barefoot!

Yellow taste's and smells hot and makes you thirsty. It makes you feel stuffy in the head. But, it always warms your sore tired old muscles. Wished I were smelling, tasting, and feeling yellow at the moment.
